In this game, a pigeon will instruct you to remember and recall a sequence of melody notes.
This study is part of a research project conducted by the
HMC lab in Tübingen, Germany, below is a picture of the town.
Study Information
Please read the following information carefully. Your participation in this research is voluntary. It is your choice whether to participate or not. Please do not hesitate to write to us at hanqi[dot]zhou[at]uni-tuebingen[dot]de if you have any further questions regarding the study.
Purpose
This is a memory game where you need to remember a sequence of music notes and recall them.
To be eligible to participate, you MUST meet the following criteria:
You can read and understand English fluently.
You have not previously participated in this experiment.
You are not color blind.
Procedure
This study will take about ?? minutes. It will consist of the following steps:
You will be introduced to a game, and you will get to try it out.
We will check whether you have correctly understood the game by asking you some questions.
You will complete a short questionnaire.
Compensation
You will receive £?? for your participation. You will also receive a bonus payment of up to £?? based on your performance in the experiment.
Data Protection and Confidentiality
4.1 Data Protection
Once we have awarded you your bonus payment, your Prolific ID will be deleted from the study data. The experiment data will be stored under a randomly assigned participant number on a server at the University of Tübingen. This means that it will become impossible to link the study data to you. All data collected during this study will be treated confidentially and all individuals with access to your personal data are obliged to maintain data secrecy. We are not responsible for the handling of your personal data through the Prolific platform.
The study data may also be made publicly accessible via research databases or scientific publications (typically via the internet). This makes it possible for other researchers to check or replicate the results and enhances the quality of scientific research. The study data may also be used for new research questions going beyond the purposes of this particular study. The data is stored anonymously, treated confidentially, and used only for scientific purposes. You are free to withdraw, in which case recorded data will not be used (cf. point 6).
4.2 Voluntary Participation
Your participation in this research is entirely voluntary. There will be no repercussions when canceling your participation.
4.3 Right to Refuse or Withdraw
You do not have to take part in this study if you do not wish to do so. You are free to withdraw your consent and do not need to provide a reason for your withdrawal. Participants who drop out of the study for any reason (e.g., technical issues) are eligible for full or partial compensation. Please contact hanqi[dot]zhou[at]uni-tuebingen[dot]de and include a screenshot of the experiment website if possible. If you withdraw from the study before data collection is completed, your data will not be used. If you withdraw from the study after completing the study, but before bonus payments have been processed, you can request the deletion of your data. After the processing of bonus payments, your Prolific ID will be removed from the study data and it will be fully anonymized, making it not possible to link you with your data.
4.4 Risks
Your participation does not involve any physical or emotional risk to you. You are free to withdraw at any time.

Imagine yourself as a young bird in a vibrant, musical forest, eager to learn the enchanting songs of your ancestors. Guided by your bird parents, you'll
embark on a melodic adventure, learn the melody notes and repeat them.
Can you rise to the top and become the ultimate chirp champion?
In total, you will play 9 Melodies. In each Melody, There will be submelodies. There will be three parts for a submelody.
In the first part, the goal is to predict what comes next in the submelody and the notes will be corrected if wrong. The second part is to repeat the submelody in the first part, based on how well you have learnt the sequence and here there will be no correction. The third part is to predict what will be the next submelody. Here, you are given 10 notes to try and predict the next submelody.
Your bonus payment depends on what percentage of the maximum score you achieve. For a score of 50% you receive no bonus payment but a score of
100% earns you £0.30 for a round (£3.60 for the 9 rounds). You will see the amount of bonus you'll have earnt at the end of every round.
